The Difference in Ollyskins® Chest Waders
Chest Waders have typically been the type of garment that is purchased ad-hoc, at last minute or without any real research into ensuring they are fit for purpose for the task that is being done. In our experience this has particularly been the case for Industrial Wader purchases, with Waders even being considered as disposable.
As a result, Ollyskins has developed Waders that offer long term value and the features and benefits you’d expect from your other Workwear garments in order to establish Waders with a difference.
Range of fabrics
Firstly, Ollyskins offer a choice of fabrics including:
- PVC – well priced, popular for Waders, soft to wear, wide choice of styles.
- Neoprene – unmatched thermal properties, especially for the winter months.
- Butyl Trilaminate – rubber core with abrasion resistant outers, lighter than neoprene yet more resistant to tearing than PVC and easier to repair.
Better Features
Within this range of fabrics, Ollyskins also take careful consideration to the design features and fabric and component benefits:
- Weight - Angling – Ollyskins Angling Waders are 700gms fabrics whilst many Waders on the market are only 500-600gms. Whilst a lightweight Wader may be considered to be a great idea, they are susceptible to more leaks and a shorter lifespan.
- Weight – Industrial - Our Industrial Waders are either 700gms or 1100gms fabrics. This results in a much tougher wader that will last you longer. (We recently analysed some Industrial Waders with a fabric weight of only 600gms – this is not substantial enough for an industrial wader and will ultimately result in leakage).
- Pockets – all Ollyskins Waders feature an inside pocket, some with a zipper. On some of the premium Waders you will also find an internal and external pocket.
- Strong Braces – Ollyskins braces are built to support – we use a 38mm Elastic Webbing with the correct amount of stretch for Waders. Some Waders use as little as 25mm webbing with excessive stretch that does not support the Waders from your shoulders sufficiently.
- Adjustable Waist – being able to tension the waist on your Waders is a standard Ollyskins feature either by the use of a drawcord, or via a side adjustment tab and gusset as found on the Ollyskins Angling Waders. This ensures a comfortable fit around the Waist and also prevents any excessive fabric which in turn can cause snag and catch points.
- Reinforced knees – all Ollyskins Waders have a double layered knee patch on either the outside or inside of the knees. This provides some additional protection when kneeling although we always recommend that you consider where you kneel with Waders as ultimately you do not need any fabric damage. A Wader without any double laying around the knee is ultimately going to damage quicker. The only exception to this is the Ollyskins model 2880 Chest Wader which although it does not feature a kneepad, the fabric is already 1100gms in weight, and it is double layered on the legs.
- Premium Wellingtons – all the Wellingtons we use are EU manufactured and follow standard Mondopoint sizing. With some models we even issue Insoles as standard.
- Seam Technologies – we use a combination of Hi-Frequency Welding, Glued and Taped Joints and Glued, Taped and Welded Joints for the various fabrics we use. None of our Seams contain stitching and this is a unique feature for an entire range of Waders like this. We call this our NoSeam™ Technology and it is the result of many years of investment and testing.
Sizing
Waders have traditionally been sold by the Boot size and a sizing system in that as the boot gets bigger, the Wader upper gets bigger. Obviously this cannot work for everyone. Whilst it would be impossible to stock a huge range of uppers for each boot size, we have carefully selected the common boot/upper ratios as the standard stock styles. And in the case of Neoprene or the Butyl/Trilaminate Waders that are UK manufactured you can ultimately choose whichever Upper Size (Chest and Inside Leg) combination to any size of boot.
